Charnessa K. Paige
Sorority, Incorporated. While she reached great achievements in academia, it has not been any of those
accomplishments that have left a lasting impact on her life. It would not be long before she found out that
common sense is better than bought sense.
Charnessa experienced an upbringing not too drastically different than those of her young audience that she
so passionately cares for. At the age of 13, Charnessa experienced the devastating effects substance abuse
had on her mother. Seeing the immediate dilapidation of her family, Charnessa would move around to 4
different houses before landing on a bed in the middle of her paternal grandmother’s living room.
Although she lived with her grandmother, Charnessa maintained a close relationship with her father. Though
she will tell you that she has much more growing to do, it is through those trials and major life adjustments
that have molded her into the person that she is today. Those life lessons, along with the grace and mercy of
God, played a major role in creating the success she’s experienced to date and the platform for the
opportunities that will open up for her in the future.
Charnessa hopes to share with her audience that when considering being successful in college and in life,
there are many events and circumstances that come about to teach and prepare us for the road ahead and it
is our responsibility to identify and use them to our advantage.
